Pulling a Pacific Halibut from the depths of Alaska
About this image: “Whoa!! I think we caught a whale”
This was the first glimpse of the monster we had fought with as it was pulled up from a depth of 120 ft (40 m).

First good look at the 79” Pacific Halibut caught in Alaska
About this image: A great gaping mouth breaks the surface
Seeing the condition of this huge 79” Pacific Halibut, Dean prepares to gaff it in order to remove the hook and the lead weight attached to the leader line.

irst look at the head of a 265 lb Pacific Halibut in Alaska
About this image: F“What do you mean that’s only the head??”
Pulling a little higher to try to reach the hook, this 79” (2 m) Pacific Halibut’s head is lifted completely out of the water. “We’ll need a better plan to get this thing lifted and landed on the deck of Mad Dog Voyager. It’s WAY too heavy to lift!!”

About this image: “Smile for the camera!”
As evening was approaching, we anchored up for the night before continuing with the “Halibut event”. Hoisted up and hanging from a mast line, the full size of this animal is finally realized as it hangs beside Dean. Several large coolers and 5 gallon (20 liter) containers were filled before we were finished dressing this giant Pacific Halibut.
