Mad Dog Voyager is a CR
400DS pilothouse style sailboat manufactured in Sweden by CR Yachts
(read more about this dishonest boat builder). Designed as a sloop and with over 740 sq. ft. of
sail area we can cruise at a comfortable 7 kts. For the times when the
winds are too light, or going the wrong way, the
56
hp Yanmar diesel engine does a good job pushing us along. We chose
the CR 400DS primarily for the styling and design and while we mainly
operate as a two-person crew, the Selden Furling gear makes it
relatively manageable to sail Mad Dog Voyager single-handed. Our 40’
sailing yacht is quite spacious with a
nice layout
as well as being a pilothouse we can steer from outside in the cockpit
at the helm, inside at the
inside
steering/navigation station or remotely via our Raymarine wireless remote control!.
Many people we’ve spoken with are thrilled to hear of our plans to sail
to various parts of the world but almost always ask “But, isn’t a 40’
house a little small?” “Not at all!” is our response. With all the
control lines (ropes) run aft to the
cockpit and a Selden
Furling headsail and mainsail all aspects can easily be controlled and
adjusted from within the confines of the cockpit. Comfortably we run the
boat with a two-person crew, however if called upon, single-handing Mad
Dog Voyager is easy to accomplish. The larger the boat the more need for
additional hands to handle it.
Furthermore, as we travel globally, many locations including marinas and
harbors' are easily maneuvered with a 6 ft draft and 40’ slips. With a
longer vessel comes a deeper keel and an increasing limit on where &
when you can go.
The bottom line is that whether you start your cruising adventure on a
40’ or 90’ boat, you will never be able to carry everything you think
you need. And if you could find a way to carry all the things you think
you need, you’d soon find that you don’t need and never use 80% of this
stuff anyhow!

When
we purchased this CR Yacht 400 DS, our Mad Dog Voyager, there were many
boats to chose from, several larger boats that cost less and smaller
boats that cost more. Our boat is very well equipped (including the
extensive upgrades and equipment added on by the
Mad Dogs), offers the ability to sit inside the pilothouse and enjoy the
view outside and being able to travel everywhere we want, allow for
relaxing water traverses while we relax and enjoy nature as we silently
sail past it.
Review of the CR yacht manufacturer in Sweden:
We are preparing a special web site to detail the problems we’ve
encountered (and have successfully fixed) with CR Yachts of Sweden, their unwillingness to honor their
warranty, lying to their customer, poor planning and installations, design flaws
(fixed to proper standards by The Mad Dogs) and generally lousy
workmanship. This site will also details issues encountered with the
dealer in Seattle and various other items on board!

Having said the above, there are no problems that the Mad Dogs can not
resolve ourselves (although to avoid these issues is why we bought a new
boat) and we will enjoy cruising and traveling around the world (or at
least a part of it) on our much improved and comfortable sailing yacht Mad
Dog Voyager. |
